What Should I Expect?
The first step is to reach out and book your shoot by clicking the “book” button on this page, or contact us through email. Then we enter the following process.
Step 1 /// Consult - Initial consultation call after booking.
During this discovery consultation, we learn more about your business, your marketing goals and the imagery you hope to capture. We would discuss our process and the best ways to achieve what you’re looking for. Based on this consultation we will put together a game plan and project estimate.
Step 2 /// Planning the Shoot
We would work closely with the appropriate decision-makers at your company to determine shoot details, location and ensure the appropriate information is passed along to employees involved in the shoot.
Step 3 /// Photoshoot Day
A timeline for the day will be created and distributed to anyone involved and will allow time for set up and breaks as necessary.
Step 4 /// Post-Production
It usually takes us 2 - 3 weeks to deliver an image gallery. However, depending on the size of your corporation and the length of the shoot this might not be possible.
Once we have an understanding of the scope of the project we will confirm the turnaround time. We will deliver your images via Dropbox and all images will be provided in both web-ready and print-ready files.
Our editing includes light photoshopping to enhance the images based on our professional opinion as well as the removal of anything that takes away from the photo. Additional Photoshop requests may be subject to additional fees.
Location - Just a note about location. We have lots of great suggestions if you are looking for something specific as we have done a ton of location shoots around the city of Calgary. If you have a spot we also recommend considering a few things like natural light, and how the different shots will take place.

Corporate or Business photography refers to the practice of taking professional photographs for business purposes. This type of photography is focused on capturing images that represent a company's brand, culture, and people. It plays a crucial role in how a business presents itself to the world, both internally and externally.
A good professional image will not only help you win potential clients but it will also show them who you are and why they should do business with you. Corporate photography doesn’t have to be dry and boring, and as corporate photographers we like to get really creative, have some fun and show your best to the world.
A good professional photographer should do just that, show who you are to your audience, and give help you build trust with your customers.

Corporate photoshoots are essential for capturing the professional essence and dynamic spirit of your business. They're perfect for creating a strong first impression, enhancing brand identity, and visually communicating your company's values and culture.
Whether it's for updating website imagery, enriching marketing materials, or personalizing business communications, corporate photoshoots provide high-quality, professional images that speak volumes about your commitment to excellence and attention to detail. They're not just photographs; they're powerful tools for storytelling and brand building.
Another great way to use corporate photography is for events like trade shows, corporate events (event photography), milestone celebrations and charity events. These images are an important part of the life cycle of a business and are an important tool in communicating your message.

Preparing your team for a corporate photoshoot is crucial for ensuring that the session is efficient, enjoyable, and yields the best possible results. Here are some steps to help you and your team get ready:
Communicate the Purpose and Details:
Clearly explain the purpose of the photo shoot to your team. Whether it's for a website update, marketing materials, business headshots, a corporate portrait or professional profiles, understanding the objective can help them prepare accordingly.
Provide details about the date, time, location, and estimated duration of the shoot.
Dress Code and Appearance:
Advise on the dress code. This could range from formal business attire to smart casual, depending on your company's image and the photoshoot's purpose.
Encourage solid colors or subtle patterns as they usually photograph better. Suggest avoiding overly bright colors and busy, high-contrast patterns.
Remind your team about grooming. Neat hair, light makeup for those who wear it, and clean, well-fitted clothes can make a significant difference.
Photographer's Instructions:
If the photographer has provided any specific instructions or requests, such as bringing certain props or preparing for specific types of shots, relay this information to your team.
Relaxation and Poses:
Encourage your team to relax and be themselves. Authentic expressions make for better photographs.
If possible, share some basic posing tips or examples of good corporate portraits for reference.
Scheduling and Logistics:
Organize a schedule if you have a large team to avoid everyone crowding in at once. This helps manage time efficiently and reduces waiting periods.
Ensure everyone knows where they need to be and when.
Preparation for Group Shots:
If group photos are part of the plan, think about the arrangement or order of people beforehand to save time during the shoot.
Special Requirements:
Inform your team about any specific themes or concepts that the photographer or you would like to try. This could include shots with company products, in front of the company logo, etc.
Feedback and Inclusivity:
Encourage your team to voice any concerns or ideas they might have regarding the photoshoot. This can lead to more creative and inclusive outcomes.
Day-of Reminders:
Send a reminder a day before the shoot about the time, place, dress code, and any other important details.
Relaxed Environment:
On the day of the shoot, try to create a relaxed and comfortable environment. Nervousness can show in photos, so a light-hearted, stress-free atmosphere can help everyone look their best.
Remember, the goal of a corporate photoshoot is not just to take professional photos, but also to capture the essence of your team and your brand. A well-prepared team will contribute significantly to the success of the photoshoot.

As corporate photographers we really have seen it all, but the answer to this really does depend on the culture of your team and the purpose of the photo session.
A good photo allows you to showcase your products and services while simultaneously giving people a sense of who you are. We like to create images that do exactly this.

Portraits and Headshot
-
Portrait photos are a type of photography focused on capturing the likeness, personality, and even the mood of an individual or group of people. These photographs are typically taken with the subject's awareness and cooperation, and they often focus on the face, although the entire body and the background or context may also be included.
-
Here at SUBSTANCE, we wanted to create a headshot session where your mind doesn’t instantly go to the classic, cheesy headshots of days past.
Our goal is to transform the way people think of the word “headshot” or “corporate headshots” and instead of cringing, they get excited about the possibility of capturing their authentic selves.
This 30-minute session includes up to 2 wardrobe changes and multiple background options so that you have some variety in your images and to ensure that you have the perfect headshot for any occasion.
During the session, we want to capture your personality through different poses, high quality images and lifestyle-type pics.
If you’re thinking “Oh, but I’m so awkward in front of the camera” - not to worry, we will guide you through and make you feel as comfortable as possible!
Just because we are corporate photographers who do corporate headshots doesn’t mean we are boring, and we know you don’t want boring images.
Brand Photography
-
These images are used on your website, social media, and promotional materials to attract customers by highlighting the quality of your team, products, services, location and business.

Potential customers LOVE seeing who you are, and who your team is.
-
These types of photos are great for showcasing your working environment for recruiting, or helping other businesses connect with your team.
B-Roll and Content Bundles
-
Everyone needs content, no matter what you are doing either marketing or social or website development images are the lifeblood. We can help with that. We have our content bundles and we can also create custom b-roll-type images for your business needs.

-
Product photography is something we love doing, and love helping local artists, makers and business owners showcase their talent, products and art. Corporate photography doesn’t have to be boring… in fact we think it can be a lot of fun.
Product photography comes in all shapes and sizes and we love working with people to see their vision come alive in the photos. As a corporate photographer your job is not only to get the picture, but also capture the essence of subject (product or art) in your work. We live for this process.

No matter the reason, capturing significant moments in the life of a business is critical. It’s also usually a lot of fun, and creative energy is high.
